Mail cannot save information about your mailboxes because there isn't enough space in your home folder

Out of the blue mail is displaying the message "Mail cannot save information about your mailboxes because there isn't enough space in your home folder".

I have currently 145GB free space.

I followed https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250717871 - yet the import failed several times due to an (unspecified) error.

at the fourth or fifth attempt the import went through - yet the problem still persists.

what can I do?

Hey again, sorry that didn’t work. Can you remember step by step how you reformatted the drive? Which disk was erased (Or Volume), and which format etc?

And can you confirm if you do have a Fusion drive or not?

You can check: Apple > About This Mac > System Information > Storage, as in:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207584

Thanks! Sorry all the hard work hasn’t yet paid off, hang in there!

Hi DiZoE! I went through the exercise with an Apple support person. It is a fusion drive and we went through the steps here https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207584 to fix a fusion drive. then we went followed the steps to macOS Recovery. so I started with a fresh Catalina. then tried to restore from my time machine - and it didn't restore the Back up (apparently Apple doesn't support the time machine on a WD NAS). So the next apple support person told me how to manually mount the drive and restore everything. Maybe it is worth trying the permission fix next time...

Hey there! Agree with Barney-15E. At first you’d think a storage issue, then a possible permissions issue with the user account. I think it might affect fusion drives somehow that then require them to be rebuilt/reset. Whatever the case reformatting the drive seems to fix the issue. Hope it works out!
