Hi,
FireWire is the normal connection method to Mac.
iMovie for macOS supported cameras – Apple Support
See Note 2: iMovie works with most mini DV tape-based camcorders using DV and HDV formats. Use FireWire port for tape-based devices.
You would need a FireWire (IEEE1394/DV/i.LINK) cable (or cable + adapter) to begin with (4-pin to the camera, 9-pin to the computer if FW 800).
iMovie for Mac: Import from tape-based cameras
If necessary, a camcorder manual can be found here:

Thank you for answering; my Panasonic I.O.S camcorder has USB and a DV out ports My Mac 27" computer has USB as well has fire Wire ports
OK, then likely a USB cable that fits both ends is best.
Firewire would be best quality. But you can also load the DVD into a DVD drive and use Handbrake to rip it.
Hi,
At least according to the manual/specifications, the PV-GS83 does not have DVD, only MiniDV tape. Probably just a typing error in the title/question above.
Well, they mistyped it twice. 8^)
Handbrak ..is this a Media Suite program?
I don't know what MediaSuite is, but Handbrake is a venerable program for getting video from DVD's
