How do I recover deleted files on my macbook pro if there is no backup

I was copying files to an external hard rive and thought they had copied so I deleted them from my computer but when I went to open them from the external they had not copied. Can they be recovered?

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 10.15

You Can't: Unless they are stored somewhere else, then you cannot restore them. You’ve delete these from the Trash - So, try looking on other places:

Where Else to Check:

A. iPhone: Restore a Library from Time Machine in Photos on Mac - Apple Support

B. Where Else to check the following:

  1. PC
  2. PDA
  3. eMail
  4. Mac Device
  5. Cloud Storage
  6. Android Phone
  7. USB Flash Drive
  8. External Hard drive
  9. Secure Digital Card
  10. Compact Flash Card
