Using phone as Apple remote

Hi all,

I lost my Apple remote. I tried to follow the process of using my phone, but it says I need to enter the code on my Apple TV on my phone in order to connect.

When I try this, I get a code on my phone to enter on my Apple TV instead of the other way around. But I can’t enter it without a remote.

any suggestions?

For the Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation), your options are:

buy a replacement Apple Remote (aluminum);
temporarily borrow an Apple Remote (aluminum) to help set up the Apple TV Remote app;
restore the Apple TV and connect a wireless keyboard to help set up the app;
restore the Apple TV and connect the CiderTV Mac app to help set up the app.

If this is an older generation Apple TV then you will need a remote to use it and you won't be able to use your phone as a remote unless you had it setup previously, when you still had the physical remote.

Yeah, it’s Gen 2. Ok thanks.

i thought it would work since my phone recognized my Apple TV.
