Late 2012 iMAC sound stopped working after Catalina update

I just updated my late 2012 iMAC with the latest Catalina version and my sound stopped working. I do not see an internal output device in the Sound settings. The startup sound does work however.

Reset the SMC, as per > How to reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support


Reset the NVRAM, as per > Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

Startup holding the,


If those do not help Reinstall macOS, as per > How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery - Apple Support

Be sure that you have a good backup, just incase you need to Erase and Reinstall.
