Logic Pro X monitoring only FX chain

Hi everyone,

I know that Reaper has this but I could not find a way to do it in Logic and I think it could be very useful. I basically want to add some effects that the output signal is running through when working/listening, but are not use while exporting the track. For example, you can use an EQ/virtual mix environment that you want to hear while playing inside logic to help you mix, but not want actually exported into the final song.

I know you can just put the effects on the master bus and deactivate them when exporting, but I say this in a video about Reaper, that it has a signal FX chain only for monitoring audio and not exported, and I though it is really useful to take the manual work out of this and the risk of forgetting and exporting with the monitoring effects. Especially since they are subtle, you might not even notice them in the final product.

Ok. I'm not at my studio to be 100% on these exact steps, but I'll give it a try. Create an aux channel and name it "Mix Bus". Set it to NO OUTPUT. Create 2 more aux's and set their input to the newly created mix bus. Label them "Bounce" and "Monitor". Set Monitor to outputs 1&2. Set the bounce bus (in my case with an 8x8 audio interface) to outputs 7&8. Put your plugins on the monitor bus, and use outs 8&9 for bouncing. Route all your channel strips in the arrangement to output on the mix bus.

I am currently using my Maschine MK3's audio interface. It technically has 2 outputs (speakers and headphones), but they cannot be used at the same time, only if you bridge them, but do not both appear in Logic as output options for a channel. In the I/O settings I can select one or the other (1-2 out or 3-4 out) and the same one is selectable as an output option for channels, the other is not visible.

But maybe I'm missing something? It would be useful to know hot to set separate buses for bouncing and monitoring, maybe I can do something with that.

Ok, I understand. And the I need to route all submixes to the mix bus, instead of the stereo out. I tried it and it actually works on my interface as well, I can use the 2 outputs separately. The only downside in my case is that both outputs are used, one for the studio monitors, and the other for the headphones, so depending on which I work on (sometimes I cannot use speakers to not make loud noises, so I use the headphones), so i always need to mute the other one to not be heard.

so it is still a bit annoying and takes some manual work but at least it is much better than with a single mix bus. I will include this in my template, thank you very much!

D you have more than two out[puts on your audio interface? If you do, I'll show you how to set up a separate monitoring and bouncing bus.
