Normally when transferring files to a new computer one cable is plugged in for transferring and the other is plugged into power. Since the MacBook only has one port how do I do this? Even if it were to be charged up to 100% I don't think it would last for an long to convert 400GB over to my new machine?

Yes, you could using Migration Assistant on your new Mac to retrieve the data from a Time Machine backup on a Time Capsule.

You will need a dongle that gives you 1 USB-C port for charging and a port to plug in your storage device. The multiport adapter Apple sells however does not have 2 USB-C ports but a USB-C and USB-A port, such as this one:

That is the problem, they all seem to only have one USB-C port. A lot of it is stored on iCloud but not all of it. This is one hub that has two USB-C but doesn't seem to have many good reviews:
Neither MacBook has USB-A. Also I don't know how long it takes to transfer 400GB over USB-C. Maybe if the MacBook is fully charged it can do it in that time? When I did this in the past is was from A to A as that was the only port my two computers had in common but now neither has that port.

Time Capsule seems like the way to go. I think our Ethernet is down, it's all some high speed WiFi connection they switched to. Time capsule just looks the most straight forward. It may take a couple days to do 400gb over wifi but the other ways just don't seem workable.
@Apfelkopf My storage device is USB-C as well. Probably best to transfer all the files over Time Capsule.
The Apple adapters sell on eBay for way less than 69$ If you are using a hard drive maybe you can get a usb-a cable for it and use the Apple one with usb-a?
Is it possible to have both Macs connected to a router or Ethernet switch for the transfer, instead on relying on USB? If so, this will prove to be more effective speed-wise.
I was referring to using a USB-A cable for your storage device to plug into the Apple adapter that has a USB-C and USB-A port.
