external dvd drive does not work

After upgrade to Catalina, external dvd/cd drive does not work. Spins, then ejects disc.

MacOS Ejects All DVDs, CDs Two months ago, my mid-2014 15" MacBook Pro Retina running Catalina stopped reading all discs inserted into my Superdrive. I bought a new one, thinking was a hardware problem. The issue remained. I have since upgraded to a 16" M1Pro MacBook Pro running Monterey and still the problem persists. When the Superdrive is plugged in, I can see it in System Information // Hardware // Disc Burning. When I insert disks -- no matter what disk or type of disk, purchased CDs, purchased DVDs, blank CD-Rs... -- the drive whirrs for a bit, then spits the disk out. Strikes me, thus, as some sort of software conflict? Any ideas or suggestions welcome.

Internal DVD optical drive in MacBook Pro (mid-2012) not seen by Catalina? Hi, has anyone got their internal optical drive in a MacBook Pro (mid-2012) to work with Catalina? Mine does not. I set up Catalina on a separate slice (is this correct terminology?) on my internal SSD, so I can boot either Mojave or Catalina. The drive works fine in Mojave, but is not even recognized as a device in Catalina. In Mojave, when looking at "Disk Burning" in System Information, it is HL-DT-ST DVDRW GS41N: Firmware Revision: UA03. In Catalina, nothing. I still use the disk for CDs & occasional DVDs, so losing this functionality is not acceptable. Thanks, John

Reset the SMC and NVRAM:

Sometimes changes are made to the system and then settings (i.e. for media drives) become manipulated, technically. So, with so many continuities of this issue, reset both on your Mac.
