AirPod case light not working

Why does my AirPod case light only work when it is plugged in? As soon as I disconnect from power and open the case, the light will not turn on. It connects to my device just fine. I've tried resetting the case with no change. Does this mean my case is not working?

Issues with AirPod pros not charging in case / connecting correctly My AirPod pros aren't charging unless the case is connected to power. Case is flashing amber and the connect status keeps flashing on iPhone with power levels every few seconds. Have tried resetting several times using process outlined by Apple; but it doesn't work. Any ideas?! Thanks
