I ported my old phone number to a new company, I inserted the new sim card with a temporary new number and then it switched to my old one in an hour. However, now iMessaging is stuck on that temporary number. I tried multiple ways suggested but can't fix it. please help!

Thank you Eric for your help and responses. Eventually the only solution was to actually change the number through “Phone” rather than “iMessages” and “Facetime.” Just an FYI if you or someone else has this problem in the future !

You need to change the number on your Apple ID. After the change, allow up to 24 hours for the change to sync. Before trying to make the change, sign out of Messages/FaceTime.
You are welcome. Did you sign out of Messages/FaceTime before you changed the number? If you did and have signed back in and the number is not correct, sign out and wait for the number change to sync.
Thank you Eric! When I check my ID on apple website, the number is still the old one, but I still deleted and re added with verification code. On my phone, iMessages and FaceTime are still using the temp number which I can’t delete. So should I just wait 24 hours from when I re entered my correct number on the website ?
