My document folder on my hard drive disappeared when I upgraded to Catalina. what can I do?

You were not paying attention during the install and you allowed your Desktop and Documents folder to be moved to iCloud Drive.
Open a new Finder window and click on iCloud Drive and put them back to where they were.
