MacBook Pro 15" Retina - crashes/restarts if/when using trackpad and on battery.

MacBook Pro 15" Retina - crashes/restarts if/when using trackpad and battery [only in this combination].

To rephrase, MacBook Pro doesn't crash if/when plugged into power supply and USB mouse, [must be this combination to prevent crash/restart].

Makes sense!? [facepalm]

MacBook Pro 15", macOS 10.14

What is the condition of the battery?

From the batt icon in the upright menu bar, hold the option key and click it open.

anything but Condition:Normal needs to be serviced.

See if you qualify: https://support.apple.com/15-inch-macbook-pro-battery-recall

You can try running the Diagnostic/AHT http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509

and see if it kicks out an error code.

In or out of warranty you can get a free over the counter 'Apple Service Diagnostics' test /assessment
