MacBook Air won’t download anything

i have a macbook air version 10.10.5 and when i try to intall a app it says “cant be installed on macintoch HD because OS X version 10.12 or later is required. what can i do to fix this problem

You need to upgrade your macOS to Sierra or newer, here a some links with the newest first, check the compatibility chart to see if your Mac can install it.

How to upgrade to macOS Sierra - Apple Support




Before upgrading make a full back up of your Mac.


Check that third party apps you use have updates available for the new OS.


Check that your printers/ scanners etc have updated drivers and software available for the new OS.
