Force Restart

Unless the phone is not responsive you should never do a force restart, as it can result in apps losing data (like turning off your computer without first running Shutdown). Here is the right way to restart an iOS device-->Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

First you press and quickly release the Volume Up button, do the same with the Volume Down button and then you hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears.

To force restart the XR, press and release the volume up button then the volume down button then only hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.
