Force Restart
The page says to press and release quickly on the top and bottom volume buttons while holding the power button but all it does is take screenshots, to restart it, I have to turn it off and on manually.

No no no.
First you press and quickly release the Volume Up button, do the same with the Volume Down button and then you hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears.
To force restart the XR, press and release the volume up button then the volume down button then only hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.
