Storing ID documents in Passwords app

Suggestions for Passwords.app. I tried Product Feedback - Apple

but no place to enter.

Anyway, I'd like to store other information like my Passport and Driver License. 1Password has this, but I'm tired of having two apps doing much of the same thing and they fight each other on web pages. Passwords seems to play better with websites than 1Password.

Second, since that capability isn't imminent, what are the alternatives? Notes I guess, but I've got so much else in there and I don't think of Notes as a place to keep information I want to keep private. Of course the solution would have to work on iOS and macOS.

I use locked Notes and — if not particularly sensitive — photos stored in photo albums in the photo library.

I’m (slowly) migrating away from the older file-based secure notes in Keychain Access app.

Notes app is well protected, much to the chagrin of people that have locked their notes with subsequently-unavailable passwords (or hadn’t recognized that biometrics weren’t and aren’t a substitute for passwords) rendering those encrypted notes inaccessible.

One of the Apple developers working in the Passwords app area had commented about a migration to the data protection keychain and away from an older keychain mechanism (macOS Keychain Access app) that could store this info. But that older implementation had limitations.

I would just go to the product feedback page you linked to earlier, and file it under either iPhone or Mac or something - I’d imagine they’ll direct it to the right team.

For what it’s worth, I just tried adding my DL number to Passwords and it works, although there’s not a dedicated option for documents like you were suggesting. I just opened Passwords, tapped “+” and for the title I put Driver License, then entered the DL number in the password field. I left the username and website blank. Then when typing on a website, I went to Autofill > Passwords, searched up Driver License, and it autofilled the DL number.

The Apple Wallet app lets you add your passport (Digital ID) and Driver’s License (depending on the state; not all support it). From the username I assume you are in California, so it’s supported.

If supported, you can add your documents there. Once added, there is an “i” symbol in the upper right which you can tap on, and select Card Information. From there you can copy any of the fields to the clipboard. This is also handy when you need these documents for travel, as you can present them in-person at places such as TSA checkpoints the same way you would use Apple Pay.

Thank you for the reminder. I had tried to do that. My CA DL is there, but failed on passport a few weeks ago.

I was filling out an online form on my Mac for travel and Wallet would not be as accessible as Passwords.

But password protecting in Notes is probably the most straightforward. But locking the Note would be an easy step to forget.

But Passwords still seems like the logical place to my way of thinking.

Thanks for the suggestions. How do I request from Apple? Although I'm sure they've gotten this request already.
