Finder column view - cannot reset to default width

Regret dragging the Finder column view slider to change column width, now my columns always expand super wide and I cannot seem to be able to change the defaults. Option clicking the slider does not change the default width for me - MacOS Tahoe.

default width?

I never had control over widths.... option key or otherwise(?)


—Manually adjust them as you go and compare your results.


—Shut down and restart and compare your results.


—delete the com.apple.finder.plist ...Found here Finder>Go>Go to Folder copy and paste:

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist


and restart or


You can try relaunching the Finder—

>Force Quit>Finder Relaunch

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.
