How to set up an old iphone as a dedicated music player?

I want to use an old iPhone 5s as a dedicated music player -- and for nothing else.

Should I Reset the 5s to get rid of Mail, Messages and other data? The 5s does not have cellular data access, but apparently it can still access Mail, Messages, etc. via WiFi. What is the best way to disable Mail, Messages, etc?

I will want to sync the CDs which I have ripped to my iMac to the old phone. If I Reset the 5s, will it still be recognized by my iMac for manually synching my music via the finder?

I wont be using any aps on the 5s except for Apple Music to play music files from storage on the iPhone. Is there any way to actually remove Apple Aps (Garage Band, iMovie, etc.) from the phone to free up more available storage?

Any tips to remove unwanted files/aps/etc. would be appreciated.
