Old message marked as 'Read' without a timestamp on iPhone

What does it mean when a message from a few months ago says "Read" but has no timestamp? Messages sent after this were marked as "delivered", but I never heard back from the person.

A message showing “Read” with no timestamp usually means:

  • The message was read when read receipts were ON
  • The timestamp was lost because they later disabled read receipts, switched devices, restored their phone, or their iCloud metadata changed
  • It does not indicate blocking
  • The fact that later messages say Delivered means you’re not blocked

This is simply an iMessage metadata quirk — not a sign of something wrong.
