MacBook Pro won't accept password after battery drain

Hello,

I just last week bought a MacBook Pro. Specs: M5, 14 inches, 16gb ram, 1tb storage, OS Tahoe.

Yesterday night it shut down because it ran out of battery (while I was not using it). Once I connected it to the power, it restarted and it is charging, as normal.

However, now it is not accepting my password! I am sure I am typing it correctly. I have even changed my password using my iPad. Still, it is rejecting any password, and not allowing me in. It keeps locking my account.

Does anyone have any idea what might be going on? Should I go to the Store to get help?

Many thanks in advance!

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 26.1

<< Why is the password not recognized? >>

The password required to log in to a Mac is NOT your Apple-ID/AppleAccount password.

When you set up your Mac for the first time, you create a new password. That is used every time you want access to your Mac, ONLY.

You can not change this password by using your iPhone, because it is not an iCloud or Apple-account password, it is local to your Mac.

However, if you are really stuck, after entering your password wrong a few times, you Mac may go on the internet and invite you to CHANGE [NB NOT recover] your Mac password using your Apple Account.
