How do I protect my Apple Account information from fraudulent calls?

I received a call from “Apple fraud” saying someone hacked my account and used my Apple account to buy a laptop. They had my Apple virtual Card account number, home address, phone number, email. Very convincing until he asked me to go to my Apple Store and change my home location zip code from CT to Detroit, walked me through the process to purchase a laptop. Said it would “push through the purchase” so the “undercover agents” at the Apple Store could stop them. Didn’t make sense to me at this point. If they already purchased it then why don’t I see the purchase in my wallet. All sounds pretty stupid now but it did scare me that he had so much information about my Apple account that I don’t use very often.
