MacBook Pro M1 Max auto-boots after shutdown/sleep

Hi all,

I have a MacBook Pro M1 Max, and when I shut it down, it automatically boots up again. Even if I put it to sleep and close the lid, it still turns on by itself. I don’t have any peripherals connected.

I’ve tried reinstalling macOS (Tahoe 26.1), resetting and reinstalling again, and even downgrading to a previous version (Sequoia), but the issue persists.

I’ve also run Apple Diagnostics, and it shows no errors. Can someone help as I’m not sure what else I can do at this point.

Thanks

MacBook Pro 16″

old issue, new issue, what changed?

keep the Mac on the charger for all testing of the issue...

If the lid is closed how do you know it "still turns on by itself." ???

The current stable release of Tahoe including bug fixes, security updates is macOS 26.1

Thanks for your reply Leroy. I do have the most recent macOS installed (26.1) and in the dark I can see the light on screen when the lid is closed. Even if I click on "Sleep" when lid is open the screen goes dark and comes back. I've tried doing SafeBoot and Revive as well. Nothing worked!

I would not rule out a hardware issue...
