Unauthorized Apple.com charge on friend's Mastercard

I am seeking help on behalf of a friend who has received an unauthorized charge from “APPLE.COM/BILL Singapore” on her Mastercard. The charge appeared on 12 November 2025 for USD 60.97.

My friend does not own an Apple device, has never created an Apple ID, and has never subscribed to any Apple services. She also checked with her bank, and they confirmed the transaction originated from Apple.com. She has already filed a fraud report with the bank, but they advised us to also report the matter to Apple.

Since she does not have an Apple ID of her own, I am using my Apple account to ask this question on her behalf.

We would like help understanding:

  1. How can we check whether the credit card has been linked to a fraudulent Apple ID?
  2. How can she request verification and investigation without having an Apple ID?
  3. Is it possible for Apple to verify and confirm that no Apple ID is associated with her name or email?
  4. What is the correct process to request a refund or reverse the charge in this situation?

Any guidance from the community or Apple advisors would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

How can we check whether the credit card has been linked to a fraudulent Apple ID?

You cannot

2. How can she request verification and investigation without having an Apple ID?

There is no investigation by Apple. They should contact their bank.

3. Is it possible for Apple to verify and confirm that no Apple ID is associated with her name or email?

No. However, they can try logging in using their email at account.apple.com

4. What is the correct process to request a refund or reverse the charge in this situation?

Contact the card issuer

I agree with muguy in all of the direct answers to the specific questions. In all cases what you were told by the bank is standard procedure and they are still responsible for investigating the matter, refunding any fraudulent purchase, and issuing you a new card. They will ask you to contact the merchant, and that truly is to make sure it is not a legitimate charge before doing the chargeback where the merchant may be able to provide proof of your purchase. In this case, it does appear your credit card number has been compromised as they don't even have an Apple Account or made a purchase at Apple.com, so the bank will end up doing the charge back and refunding your money. Don't let the bank put the burden of proof on your friend to investigate.
