How do I contact an app developer about privacy-related questions when they have provided a false email on the App Store?

What I should do when I have an app on my iPhone (Toksy is the name of the app) where I have a question about privacy to the developer, but the email provided by the developer in the app and also on their privacy policy webpage isn’t real? I’ve tried writing a negative review and using the ”Report a Problem” webpage but there’s still no option to contact the developer and Apple doesn’t respond. So when an app on the App Store doesn’t provide a real way to contact the developer for privacy related questions, and Apple doesn’t respond, what can I do? Isn’t it against App Store’s ToS to have this app? I’m dissatisfied and the App Store doesn’t feel safe if you can’t contact the app developers for privacy-related questions.

You should use the Report a Problem website to give Apple that information just like you did. You will not get a response from Apple, but it will be reviewed. Apps that are found to not follow the Submission Guidelines are removed from the App Store as you can see just last year there were over 82,000 apps removed.

I agree that you also did the right thing by writing a review for the App in the App Store to let others know about your experience.

Beyond that I am not sure what else you are looking for. If you do not get the support you expect from any developer, then you have the choice to remove the app. Let Apple perform their investigation with the information you have provided to them. The Support link in the App Store does take you to their page where the Privacy Policy is visible and required by Apple. The developer will be given the opportunity to update their contact information and also update the app with the appropriate information. You will not be kept in the loop on how the investigation is progressing and if the developer does not respond to Apple, it may be removed from the App Store as you have seen is done on a regular basis.

Indeed, the email address provided on the support page you referenced is the one that is currently inactive. When attempting to send an email, you receive a bounced-back error message indicating that the email address is not active. Despite reporting this issue to Apple two weeks ago, the app remains available on the App Store. I find it concerning that I do not receive any confirmation regarding the resolution of this problem or the steps being taken to address it.

Fortunately, I received assistance in this thread: Can Apple Intelligence summarize web page… - Apple Community to create an Apple shortcut that allows me to summarize webpages, eliminating the need for the Toksy app.

I reported it a week ago and the app is still live on the App Store, but maybe Apple haven't had time to investigate yet if it's that many apps they have to deal with removing. Because this app clearly doesn't follow their ToS since it objectively has an invalid email adress to the developer.

They will give the Developer a chance to make that correction. When you used the email address on the bottom of this page, did you get a bounce back or just that they did not answer back?

As a developer myself, I can give a little bit of info on how the process has worked for me. I had an app that had a bug affecting one platform when in Dark Mode and I got an email from Apple directly to my Developer Account. This is different than the Support email that I had posted and I did not get an email from the user, but they instead used the Report a Problem website, which is fine. The email from Apple gave me 30 days to provide an update to resolve the bug, so that is what I did. The email from Apple did not disclose the user who made the complaint or the exact text of that complaint. As a developer it is our obligation to produce bug free apps and to make support available.

Thank you, unfortunately the review will only be visible to App Store users in my country (Sweden) since reviews on App Store are only regionally visible... And no, I'll look for an alternative. I've asked a separate question on this forum if it's possible to summarize entire webpages with the press of a button using Apple Intelligence on iPhone, because if that's possible, I don't have to deal with finding an app and can instead just buy a new iPhone to have webpages with long articles summarized for me easily.
