Catalina is not one of the "most recent three" supported by vendors such as Microsoft and Adobe. It fell off that list over three years ago, when Ventura came out.
Catalina is still enough to run current versions of
- The Firefox Web browser. (Current versions of most other third-party browsers now require Monterey or better.)
- The LibreOffice office suite
- The GraphicConverter photo editor. This one costs money.
- The Affinity Studio application that appears to have replaced Affinity (Photo V2, Designer V2, Publisher V2). This one is free (with registration) unless you want to unlock AI features; then there are subscription fees.
You would need Internet access to download these programs, and in the case of the latter two, to do initial registration. And obviously, Firefox wouldn't be very useful if your plan was to isolate the old Mac from the Internet entirely. On the other hand, if the reason you want to avoid Internet use is that you feel that Catalina's version of Safari is too old, using Firefox might let you get a bit more life out of the machine.
