Unexpected $66.78 interest charge for 2-hour late credit card payment

I was 2 hours late pay for my credit card because I live in west coast. My bill supposed to be paid off the last day of the month but last night when I paid off around 11:00pm there’s still an interest charge which is $66.78for five hundred something balance. I didn’t know I had to pay off by 8:00pm since it’s east coast time. Just couple hours late I had to pay that much? I called the “specialist “ right away and waited for more than one hour. She said she only can help me waived $25 instead of $66.78. I still had to pay $41.78 for 2 hour late interest. That’s very upset. And she said she’s the last person I could talk to. No one else could help me anymore. Is this sounds right?

First … this has nothing to do with “Apple.”

(Apple is not a credit card issuer)

Late charge fees and all “grace period” policies are determined by the card issuer and described in detail in your card’s Terms & Conditions.

While the interaction you describe certainly doesn’t sound very “nice,” it’s not necessarily wrong or illegal.

Refer to your card’s Terms and Conditions for the exact details applicable to your account.

Unfortunately that is the terms of the card for calculating interest:

  • Your payment is due by 11:59 P.M. ET on the last calendar day of each month.

Instead of sticking to the terms and telling you there is nothing they can do, you did get a reduction of the interest for $25. I have seen other credit card companies not even offer that on a late payment and also charge a fee on top of the interest charge. The Apple Card does not charge any late payment fee that you may see on some other credit cards.

I understand that is not want you want to hear and not a resolution, but since Apple is not a bank, they don't have any ability to make the decisions for Goldman Sachs. The same is true for any company branded credit card. For example, Alaska Airlines has a credit card managed by BOA, and it is not Alaska Airlines that is involved with dispute resolution. By the way, that card would have charged you $29 for the late payment on top of the Interest charge.
