Revert Multicam clip back into separate clips?

Occasionally when doing a multicam project I need to revert the multicam clip into its original clips.

How can that be done? I also have the same problem with compound clips.

With compound clips, you just select, and choose Clip->Break Apart Clip Items (or press Command-Shift-G).

There is no such option for Multicam Clips.

Can you tell us do you want the original clip in this instance?

Perhaps we can find an alternative way.

Well, you could double click the MC in the timeline, which opens the Angle Editor, with the playhead at the location you're at. Then you could selected the correct angle and press Shift-F to Reveal in Browser. That will show you the original in the browser. You could drag that over the MC in the timeline.

Open and Copy Contents Back Out (the manual “unpack”). This is the only way to truly revert a multicam or compound clip into its parts. If you often need to “revert” multicam or compound clips, consider keeping a project duplicate with original clips laid out, or use snapshot duplicates before creating the multicam/compound — that makes it much easier to revert later.

Basically you are starting over.

It appears that part of the problem is you can't see the clips in the browser.

This was a recent change: by default, when making a multicam, the original clips are hidden.

They are still there, just hidden. Some people like it, as it reduces clutter, but it can be confusing when you have clips but you can't find them.

To view these hidden clips, though, you need only do this: click this icon above the browser:

and check "Show hidden clips":

And, for the future, when creating new multicam clips, there is a checkbox to hide the originals, which you may want to UNCHECK:

As usual Luis you have hit the nail on the head!

As mentioned earlier, I discovered that repeated use of command-z took me back to the start but the clips all had the little "hidden" icon and I was puzzled as to what was hidden.

When I followed your advice to reveal the hidden files I discovered that it was already selected although I hadn't consciously selected it.

Anyway the problem is now fixed and thanks to you I understand. I wish Apple would allow us to make changes!
