Failed to open connection to Canon TS5150 for scanning on Monterey 12.7.6

Running Monterey 12.7.6 (2015 Macbook Pro) and all of a sudden can't Scan on my Canon TS5150. I get this error; failed to open a connection to the device (-21345)


I've seen other instances of this on this forum but can't find a fix which works. The fact it's worked for years and now doesn't is baffling - something has changed but see below.


Printing is fine. I've removed and added the printer several times. It's been powered off/ on but I haven't done a factory reset on the printer - suspect that's my next option.


O/S hasn't been updated recently & no other obvious software changes. I have tried Image Capture - printer shows up but fails with the same error.

Canon now states that the PIXMA TS5150 has been made an AirPrint device with regard to drivers for Monterey. Canon offers no drivers for this device and Monterey, as they expect you to configure it as a networked, Apple AirPrint device. Attempting to install drivers for older versions of macOS may result in your current inoperable experience.


See this Canon guide for how to configure your TS5150 for AirPrint. There is also a section on that document about how to configure and use your scanner in an AirPrint configuration. You may want to bookmark that link.
