Apple 4K remote stops responding

When I first turn TV on the remote works using DirectV and I can select any channel. But when I want to change channels after watching for less than 25 minutes is stops responding. I was advised previously to check that I'm running last version and if not to update. If running last version then preform a Restart and wait for screen saver to appear, then select DirectV and it works fine again. It's now getting frustrating because I have to do this on a daily basis. Anyone know of a better fix??

Is this issue for just one app (DirecTV app)?


In general, try this for any misbehaving (third party) app on the Apple TV box:

  1. Update your Apple TV system software to the current version, if not done already.
  2. Force-quit the app, then relaunch and try again.
  3. If the issue persists, force-quit the app, restart the device, then relaunch and try again.
  4. If the issue still persists, delete the app, re-download and try again.
  5. If the issue still persists after that, then contact the app developer for further assistance.


In general, try this when the remote isn’t working as expected (for all apps):

  1. Pair the remote again to the box, using the indicated button combination.
  2. Restart just the remote, using the other indicated button combination.
  3. Charge remote battery, if needed.
