I'm not sure that I can be of much help on how it sounds etc, like others have been able to do.

The sound is a "ding" and lasts about 2 or 3 seconds at the most. Kind of like hitting a key on a piano - plink (on and off) about that fast. There are no multiple sounds like harmony or harmonics, just "plink". I doubt that a fan's noise would be anywhere near that short. And the sound seems to be relatively new, but it doesn't last long enough for me to try to change volume.

It is not constant, so I never know when it is going to happen, hence I am not able to capture it. As I said before, it is not in the list of "Alert" sounds because I've listened to every sound in that list multiple times. And it is not something that I am actively doing, because it goes off even when my fingers are nowhere near the keyboard. So, I am guessing that it is some sort of alert, but I haven't a clue what might be triggering it. and I have no idea where to look for a single "tap-like" sound, like a needle in a haystack, so to speak.

I must say that this is so weird trying to describe something that is so strangely intermittent, so that is why I came to the "community" in the first place. Can you imagine a senior tech at apple looking at the phone while I try describing this?

I just hope that someone might have an idea of how I might be able to find, identify and stop this from happening, because it is driving me crazy.

Anyone with any ideas on this?

where is that sound coming from?
