Moving To Macbook Air from windows

I have a new M4 MacBook air coming tomorrow after having used windows for the past 10 or so years (one of the reasons I'm moving is for work and also because i already have an iPhone and iPad, apple watch) what are some of the things that are best to set up straight away and how do you transfer files the easiest. Last time I factory reset my windows laptop I put important files on google drive is it worth doing this again as I don't want everything off my windows laptop.

some setup-aspects I like to do:

  • get used to "hot corners": Use hot corners on Mac - Apple Support
  • customize your dock and menu bar
  • if you already use iCloud and any related Apple services, good on you, probably not much further setup required
  • look over privacy-, security-, developer- and related settings to get a view over the functionality and features of certain aspects of the OS.

Suggestion. If you are required to use Microsoft products buy a Windows PC, and if you are required to use Google products buy a Chromebook.

Fortunately no one is required to use either of those products or services any more. Macs already come with everything you need. Transferring files for example is easily accomplished using iCloud Drive... which you already have. Don't use Google Drive; don't use Microsoft OneDrive.

People who buy Macs expecting them to work like legacy Windows PCs tend to suffer effects not unlike withdrawal from some addictive substance. A month or so later they can't believe how much time money and frustration they wasted doing things the old way.
