Ensure Google Drive App is Installed and Updated:

  • You must have the official Google Drive app installed on your iPad for it to appear as a location in the Files app.
  • Make sure the Google Drive app is updated to its latest version from the App Store.

Verify Google Drive is Enabled in Files:

  • Open the Files app on your iPad.
  • Tap the Browse tab.
  • In the Locations sidebar, tap the More button (three dots in a circle) near the top.
  • Tap Edit.
  • Ensure the toggle switch next to Drive (or Google Drive) is ON (green). If it's off, turn it on and tap Done.

  1. Authentication and Privacy Settings:
    • If you see an "Authentication required" or "Content Unavailable" error, open the Google Drive app directly and ensure you are properly signed in to your Google account.
  • Disable Face ID/Passcode lock within the Google Drive app: Some users have reported that having a security feature like Face ID or a passcode enabled within the Google Drive app itself can prevent the Files app from accessing it.
      • Open the Google Drive app.
      • Tap the three-line menu (or your profile icon).
  • Go to Settings > Privacy Screen (or similar security option) and disable it.

If the initial steps don't resolve the issue, try these more involved troubleshooting methods:

  1. Sign Out and Sign Back In:
    • Open the Google Drive app.
    • Tap your profile picture (top right).
    • Tap Manage accounts on this device.
    • Tap Remove from this device for your account(s).
    • Force-close both the Google Drive app and the Files app.
    • Reopen the Google Drive app and sign back in.
    • Check the Files app again.

Reinstall and Restart:

  • Delete the Google Drive app from your iPad.
  • Force restart your iPad (this clears temporary data):
    • Press and quickly release the Volume Up button.
    • Press and quickly release the Volume Down button.
    • Press and hold the Top button until the Apple logo appears, then release.
  • Reinstall the Google Drive app from the App Store.
  • Launch the Google Drive app and sign in.
  • Check the Files app.

Check for Multiple Google Accounts:

  • If you have multiple Google accounts signed in on the Google Drive app, try removing all but the primary one you want to use with the Files app, as this has resolved the issue for some users in the past.
