How do i use pulse on airpods pro 3 without paying a subscription

I bought the airpods pro 3 specifically for the pulse measurement feature. There was no indication I would need to subscribe to fitness +. Any other none subscription apps or ways I can use these for this intended purpose? I am kinda frustrated with this.
