Mac mini M1 - running Idrive back up - system data growing 20gb every 12 hours!!!!

Hi there,

I have a Mac mini M1 512GB and I left it to run a back up a 8tb network drive to Idrive the last week and It started to crash in the night, I realised that was due to storage space running out so the app couldn't work.. but I then realised that the System data had ballooned too 360 GB so I ran a clean install and started again. I ran it last night and today the System data grew from 40 GB to GB overnight..?

I can't see any temp files associated to Idrive and I called them and they say it is a Mac issue. I'm getting quite confused and frustrated and reading about other Mac mini users on here that have massive System data that isn't explained.

does anyone know of a fix for this? are the later Mac minis having the same issues?
