Just updated to Tahoe and now the audio levels are auto adjusting in the sound settings - Solution

I have been successfully recording voice overs on my mac pro for years. Over the weekend my mac was updated to Tahoe. Now when I plug my usb mic into the mac and go to the system settings ->sound ->input the input level is moving by itself up and down while I talk like there is an Auto Gain setting enabled. This only started happening since updating to Tahoe. There should be a check box to turn auto gain on and off in that control panel - not sure why apple chose to make the input auto gain. . . With auto gain on it keeps adjusting the level of the mic input while I'm speaking and that makes a ton of more work when editing since the audio level keeps going up and down during the recording. This has never been a problem for me until now.

I found a solution in the audio MIDI setup control panel - you create an “Aggregate Device”, which only works with a single mic. The Aggregate Device doesn't have its own volume setting, so the OS can't mess with it.

Open “Audio MIDI Setup”. You can quickly find this by typing Command+Space, then type in MIDI.

Next Add “Aggregate Device” - In the left column at the bottom, hit the + sign and "Create Aggregate Device" Click on the new Aggregate Device in the left column, and check 'Use' box for your microphone in the right-hand panel. Then in the system setting->sound-> input choose the aggregate device you just created.
