Apple Wallet won't read my credit card chip on iPhone 15 Pro

when adding a credit card with apple wallet it says scan the chip on the card. it says it cannot read the chip.

Apple iPhones are not chip readers. iPhones do have NFC (Near Field Communication) which is fundamental part of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet. A few banks ask that you verify your card and identity by placing a card with Tap-to-Pay symbol on the top third of the front screen or back of iPhone.

iPhone can (usually) read the chip embedded in various cards (“tap to provision”), and that is usually preferable to entering the card number digits manually.


(The card number font choice used on various recent payment cards is less than completely legible, too.)


But if the read fails (as was mentioned in the original post), manual input is the path.
