Gmail in Apple Mail app slow/not loading after iOS 26

Is anyone else having issues with Gmail through the mail app after installing iOS 26/Tahoe? It takes ages for any of my emails to download…they are present in the Gmail app, but don’t show up in mail. It seems to just get stuck on “checking for mail”. It’s also not syncing with my laptop.

I’ve deleted and re added all my accounts twice, reset network settings, checked fetch/push, restarted both my phone and computer countless times. It’s making me crazy.

I have an iPhone 17 pro and 2022 MacBook Pro both running the latest software.

I've reset my receiver modem, turned it on and off, reset my Orbi mesh system, all the standard rigamarole.

I can only wonder that the Tahoe engineers may have done a slight code change that they assumed would work with all the different email "handshakes". I bet there will be a solution in about a month with an update to help solve this. My iCloud is obviously fine, gmail-- well that's one of the culprits, outlook is also slow and my other emails I don't use on the Apple Mail Aggregator.

Gmail is very slow after upgrading to IOS 26. All steps take very long time, connecting … fetching … downloading … after 1 to 2 minutes it finally shows new mail. I’ve done a reboot and a forced reboot (using the buttons), it looks to be marginally better. My other mail accounts work with normal speed. I have an iPhone 14 and an iPad Pro 4th generation. What’s wrong?
