Downgrade firmware for HP Pro 6970 to get around cartridge blocking

The printer updated a couple of months ago blocking use of any cartridges that aren't from HP.

I looked through the list of rf files but my printer wasn't listed.

Can anyone help?

I've never heard of it being possible to downgrade those types of firmware updates in any of the news articles about that atrocious behavior by HP.

Sometimes firmware can be downgraded on some devices while other times it may not be possible. I know that even if some firmware can normally be downgraded on a particular device.....once in a while a vendor may release a firmware update that cannot be downgraded.

FYI, the next time you purchase a printer, I would recommend voting with your wallet & purchase another brand which doesn't cripple a printer after you purchase it. HP has proven they will cripple printers after purchase.

In fact HP spawned a cottage industry of firmware-downgrade commiserators devising clever ways around that "atrocious behavior" — an apt description by the way. I strongly advise rewarding that decision by giving your business to a more reputable manufacturer.

In the meantime beware that discussions about evading DRM have a tendency to vanish from this site without a trace — not that DRM is anything I would consider applicable to ink of all things, but HP almost certainly has another opinion.

I also strongly recommend reading MrHoffman's User Tip Which Printer Should I Buy? - Apple Community.

Avoid HP for that reason and more.
