iPhone 17 Pro Max Carplay Keeps Disconnecting

I just upgraded from the 15 Pro Max to the 17 Pro Max. My 15 rarely had any issues with CarPlay but my 17 I can barely keep CarPlay going for 2min before it disconnects and then refuses to reconnect. I’ve done all troubleshooting steps and nothing works.

Wireless Carplay

Troubleshooting done:

Reboot phone

Removed Car Connection

Factory Reset Infotainment System

Re-paired

Checked for updates

Disabled auto join of other WiFi networks.

It will connect but then shortly after disconnect and refuse to reconnect again.

This needs fixed as I use CarPlay everyday for my job.

Hi Everyone,

I finally got so fed up with the problem being even worse after the latest IOS update, that I started a ticket with chat support. They ran me thru trouble shooting, then told me that they needed a senior tech to look at it. They offered me a phone call. I scheduled the phone call, and the two techs who attempted to call me kept disconnecting and couldn't hear me. After this, I chatted back to support and requested they set me up an in-person appointment in store, and they did.

I went to the Apple Store, they were so kind and understanding, and one of the guys who worked there told me he ad his wife BOTH experienced this and it was a software issue. They recommended a backup, and to do a "reset" through their computer which includes completely removing the OS from the phone and then reinstalling it from their master OS in their computer there. The way I understood what they were doing, is that it were as if I were building a new PC, and installing windows for the first time ever on a blank hard drive.

They told me that the software that I had even though its the same "numbers" probably has some bugs in it, and it is best to just start fresh from scratch.

When they did that, I was skeptical, but it fixed every single problem. And I notice that voice to text works better than it had before, and that everything is generally quick.

So a complete reinstall of the OS at the Apple Store is what I recommend. It's worth the 3 hours I spent at the store, because I spent way more time than that troubleshooting random ****. And a software re-install and repair is indeed different than just factory resetting the phone.

I'm skeptical of the software reinstall solution, because it started for both my wife and I when we switched to the 17 Pro. Why would both of us get some random hidden software bug related to Carplay at the same exact time, on both wireless and wired carplay?

It may become necessary for me to try it, but I'd prefer Apple figure out the issue and fix it with an OS update.

Same problem. Ford Ecosport 2018. IPhone 17 pro max with IOS 26.1 new update. CarPlay will not work. I have done everything including going to apple and factory resetting my phone. It is still not working.

Other steps I have done:

  • Master reset everything on car
  • Connected to WiFi via hotspot
  • Checked for car updates
  • Factory reset iPhone then reconnected to car
  • Reconnected CarPlay
  • VPN is off
  • No privacy or screen time protections
  • Updated phone
  • Restarted phone
  • Paired & unpaired phone with car
  • Restarted network settings
  • Changed cord
  • Untoggled Bluetooth/wifi
  • Accessories under security is on allow when unlocked

last resort was factory resetting and that didn’t work. I’m going to try a CarPlay wireless adapter next but otherwise I don’t know what else to do. Apple said to wait for the next update and hopefully they will fix the issue. Super frustrating considering I use my maps for everything and now I can’t since CarPlay won’t connect.

I would not have upgraded my phone if I knew this would happen. Hoping it gets fixed.

My saga continues... it's been going since day 1 of the 17 pro max release.

  • I've now completed a full factory reset (wiped all network data before this and no luck there either)
  • Thought it worked but I guess I didn't give it enough time in the first car
  • Now same issue of disconnect and freeze the head unit across all 4 cars (Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, Toyota)

Has anyone received any indication this will be addressed in 26.2?
