iPhone 17 Pro Max Carplay Keeps Disconnecting

I just upgraded from the 15 Pro Max to the 17 Pro Max. My 15 rarely had any issues with CarPlay but my 17 I can barely keep CarPlay going for 2min before it disconnects and then refuses to reconnect. I’ve done all troubleshooting steps and nothing works.

Wireless Carplay

Troubleshooting done:

Reboot phone

Removed Car Connection

Factory Reset Infotainment System

Re-paired

Checked for updates

Disabled auto join of other WiFi networks.

It will connect but then shortly after disconnect and refuse to reconnect again.

This needs fixed as I use CarPlay everyday for my job.

Hi Everyone,

I finally got so fed up with the problem being even worse after the latest IOS update, that I started a ticket with chat support. They ran me thru trouble shooting, then told me that they needed a senior tech to look at it. They offered me a phone call. I scheduled the phone call, and the two techs who attempted to call me kept disconnecting and couldn't hear me. After this, I chatted back to support and requested they set me up an in-person appointment in store, and they did.

I went to the Apple Store, they were so kind and understanding, and one of the guys who worked there told me he ad his wife BOTH experienced this and it was a software issue. They recommended a backup, and to do a "reset" through their computer which includes completely removing the OS from the phone and then reinstalling it from their master OS in their computer there. The way I understood what they were doing, is that it were as if I were building a new PC, and installing windows for the first time ever on a blank hard drive.

They told me that the software that I had even though its the same "numbers" probably has some bugs in it, and it is best to just start fresh from scratch.

When they did that, I was skeptical, but it fixed every single problem. And I notice that voice to text works better than it had before, and that everything is generally quick.

So a complete reinstall of the OS at the Apple Store is what I recommend. It's worth the 3 hours I spent at the store, because I spent way more time than that troubleshooting random ****. And a software re-install and repair is indeed different than just factory resetting the phone.

I'm experiencing the exact same issue you described, so you're definitely not alone. I completely agree that Apple Support needs to address this as soon as possible.

Like you, I've been asked to perform the same troubleshooting steps, but nothing has changed. It's frustrating when Apple Support acts as if this is the first they've heard of the problem, especially when there's an entire online community discussing it.

Well Apologies, Got into the car today and within 5 minutes carplay cut out and started reconnecting which took 25 minutes (during journey!) came back on for a while then cut out again.

So bottom line is I am back to square one, with an iPhone 17 pro that is about as much use as a chocolate teapot when in the car, I have 2 days left in which to return the item to apple, my only hesitation is that I part exchanged my iPhone 15 pro for it - so will be left with no phone and no data, really annoyed after spending the kind of money I have done to be left in this situation.

iPhone 17 Pro Max, running iOS 26.1 (installed last night), but still experiencing persistent random CarPlay disconnects across multiple vehicles (tested on 2 Mercedes Benz vehicles and a Jeep). Both wired and wireless CarPlay drop connection at unpredictable intervals, even though my iPhone 12 Pro Max and 16 Pro Max maintain flawless connection in the same cars. This is especially dangerous when driving unfamiliar routes and relying on navigation. I’ve already tried resetting network settings, restarting devices, and updating car infotainment firmware, but nothing resolves the issue. Apple needs to figure this out for us.

Same issue here as well. My iPhone 15 apple play worked well. Just got a new iPhone 17 and drops apple play after a couple minutes. I upgraded the USB port, upgraded the Ford software tried three different cords that are of highest quality, then I tried to new Bluetooth receiver, tried resetting multiple times and still just keeps kicking me off CarPlay no matter what. Bluetooth issue with the iPhone 17. Will return. Phone call quality is also garbage. This phone is garbage

Cool idea, but it even disconnects when it's wired. I only use CarPlay as a wired feature. It disconnects at random lengths of time. Im gonna put it out there that it's not a wifi or bluetooth issue but perhaps like a data overload? It seems to occur when I try to run more than 1 app at a time. For example, Waze and answering a phone call will disconnect it almost every time.

Is it possible that data flow between the phone and the car is somehow killing the connection to CarPlay ?

Im not a tech guy, it's just something I've noticed. What to ya'll think??

There absolutely 100% is a benefit to using a vpn on an iPhone. Don’t assume that everyone uses tools for the same things. There are other uses for a vpn than protecting your data. One such use is location spoofing to access local, state, or region restricted websites which many people do.

Use whatever you want on your phone. But then, don't come here complaining about connectivity issues if you have them, which VPNs cause on iPhone. Apple security is tight enough, without needing to use a VPN. But it's your phone, so do as feel is best for you.

I went out last night - drove for an hour in each direction. On the way there, I was listening to a podcast via carplay, and it disconnected and reconnected 4 or 5 times (I created the automation to reset wifi that someone mentioned a few days ago). On the way home, I had a phone call, and it didn't disconnect for the entire hour's drive.

Was also using the Tom Tom Go app on my phone (via the car screen) to navigate.
