There appears to be no way to remove these Recently Saved bookmarks from the Safari sidebar in the latest MacOS Tahoe. Worse still, the preview bookmarks appear as large image icons (see attached image), which are also impossible to remove. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

I figured it out. The "Recently Saved" section lists sites in your "Reading List". Go to View -> Show Reading List Sidebar. There you can delete items. When all have been deleted, the Recently Saved section is gone.
I didn't even know I had added items to a reading list. But, they're gone now and I'm happier.

That’s not what they’re talking about. They’re talking about the huge “Recently Saved” icons which you cannot remove or hide or minimize.

Sadly, Safari seems to be the only browser on iOS where you can open your bookmarks menu with a single tap (from the bottom bar), otherwise I would.
This issue/complain has been going on for along time, ever since update and subsequent updates. Looks like Apple wants you to use different Brouwer?
Could you include a picture of the three dots? I don't seem to have them.

The three dots DON'T offer an option to remove the big bookmark images, as you can see below. I clicked the compact option and the bookmark images are still there.
Maybe I am not too bright, but how does this fix the issue of those giant bookmark icons?
You will still show recently saved (large boxes) in the side bar if you add any bookmark to the new folder you created. It keeps track of all those adds.
I don’t have the 3 dots on my update either.
You won't have the 3 dots if you are still on OS v15 or before but you WILL if you are on OS v26 Tahoe unless there is something very weird about your computer. If you update to Tahoe the dots WILL reduce (compact) the bookmarks in the new Safari version but WON'T reduce the large irritating row of icons at the top underneath the search bar which have been foisted permanently on users for some reason. Hope this helps. If you can update the OS then I would recommend it personally.
