How do I permanently remove Recently Saved bookmarks from the Safari sidebar in MacOS Tahoe?

There appears to be no way to remove these Recently Saved bookmarks from the Safari sidebar in the latest MacOS Tahoe. Worse still, the preview bookmarks appear as large image icons (see attached image), which are also impossible to remove. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

I figured it out. The "Recently Saved" section lists sites in your "Reading List". Go to View -> Show Reading List Sidebar. There you can delete items. When all have been deleted, the Recently Saved section is gone.

I didn't even know I had added items to a reading list. But, they're gone now and I'm happier.

Same issue. There is nothing on the reading list to eliminate. If I add a new bookmark to saved bookmarks, I must have this huge thumbnail dominating the sidebar. To eliminate it, I need to eliminate the bookmark - but I want to keep the bookmarks (that is the whole point of bookmarks?). I find this annoying and question why I cannot customise Safari. I have written to Feedback and hope if enough people comment it will be addressed.

I want "Recently Saved" removed from bookmarks, not the reading list. They are not the same thing and serve different purposes.

Furthermore the whole bookmarks pane has turned to garbage. The formerly expandable bookmark folders were a great way to see everything in one place and move bookmarks between folders. The new bookmark pane switches to a folder pane which overcomplicates a simple process, takes up way too much space with huge bookmark links, and is completely counterproductive.

Get it together apple! If I wanted inferior junk I would go back to a windows based system!

Updating to Safari v26.1 I do not like the recently saved Reading List to show on screen. I am using it for looking for things which include presents that I do not want the children to get wind of. Also that applies to adults knowing what they might be getting. Before this latest update the Reading List offered a measure of privacy as you had to 'open' the Reading List, now it just shows above the Bookmarks. Now anyone who is near the computer can see what was recently saved in the 'reading list' on the bookmarks bar. What a crazy idea.

I want to see a simple list of my bookmarks (i.e., the way it was before 26.1), organized the way I organized them, without having to waste time scrolling through a bunch of garbage. I don't need the icon pictures (they take up a lot of space), I don't need the "Recently Saved", and definitely DO NOT need AI generated descriptions. I am perfectly capable of creating bookmarks with my own reminder cues. This is not an "update". It is an inefficient "dumb-it-down-date". Please give us the option to change the view back to the clean, simple view that it was.

I don’t have 3 dots as was pictured.

Agree that those who share a workspace or living space, this update is super bad.

Anyone can see the last links you have put on your reading list.

No birthday or Christmas shopping surprises now in this house on this shared computer.

Previously one had to ‘open’ a Reading List folder (which others never did).

In any case the privacy issue remains.

What was Apple thinking.

Maybe Not thinking.
