From control panel >Storage I'm told that my MacHD has 127Gb of applications.
Expanding that, it tells me that Pages is using 69.97Gb
Show that in Finder and it's only reporting 686.1Mb.
Where can I find what is using the missing 69.3Gb?
All files, documents etc are only ever saved on external drives.

The bar and categories in the Storage eye candy, have not been accurate for some time now.
To get a good break down of where things really are, I use OmniDiskSweeper.

When you look at the control panel/storage: the item ‘docs’ contains more than just Pages-files. All files that don’t belong to other the categories are to be found here. This means e.g. Pdf-files, images, video’s and photo’s that are not stored in your photolibrary and so on

Why is it required to find the space ?
Is the computer running out of Free Space ?
Has the computer exhibited unusual behaviours ?
Has the computer alerted the user that " computer is running low on Space " ?
