There is sound in the trailers so I know its possible to get sound, so it's not a wiring or settings issue. Just no sound when watching a film or series episode. Anyone understand why?

I have checked for updates and tried deleting and reinstalling the Apple app but the same problem persists - no sound when watching a film or series episode. Sound works on previews ans with other apps.
