Dock disappears randomly on macOS Tahoe 26.0

Since updating to macOS Tahoe 26.0 (release version) on my MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2021, Apple M1 Max), I’ve noticed that the Dock occasionally disappears and does not return. Dock is set to always show (auto-hide is off).

The only way I’ve found to restore it quickly is by opening Spotlight → typing Terminal → and running killall Dock. This instantly brings the Dock back without needing to toggle settings.

I’ve already reported this bug to Apple via the official macOS feedback form, but I wanted to share it here in case others are experiencing the same issue — and also to provide this quick workaround until Apple releases a fix.

Has anyone else run into this?

Update:

In my case the issue is specifically triggered by the screensaver.

After waking from screensaver the Dock disappears.

As a temporary workaround I disabled the screensaver, and since then the Dock has remained stable.

Hope this helps others until Apple fixes it.

Update (Oct 1, 2025):

Just installed macOS Tahoe 26.0.1. Right after reboot — literally the first boot after the update — the Dock had already vanished. No screensaver, no sleep, no hot corners, no “unique local setup.”

The only thing that brings it back (as before) is killall Dock. That’s the one and only reliable workaround until Apple ships a real fix.

One of many issues with Tahoe. What a piece of junk this release is, from bugs to aesthetics. Anyhoo, I had to create an Apple Script and put it on my desktop, next to my dock, so every time this happens I just double click the script.

tell application "System Events" to set the autohide of the dock preferences to true
delay 1
tell application "System Events" to set the autohide of the dock preferences to false

1 M2 Desktop, 1 M4 Desktop and 1 M4 Laptop all upgraded from Sequoia 15.6.1 to MacOS 26.0 Tahoe

Starting with second statement first

No Disappear Dock(s)

Yes, the dock will disappear if applications are put in Full Screen Mode

Mouse over bottom where the Dock should be - it pops up as expected

First statement

Based upon personal experience on 3 machines plus those of my colleague @ neuroanatomist

What is occurring, on you machine, seems by all accounts to be localized and unique to your computer

I lost my dock this morning on power up, so I don't think my problem is related to the screensaver's activity, unless it's in the background somehow.

The dock failed to appear after an unusually long start-up time. Tahoe has been pretty slow to boot every session, but this morning it was especially so.
