Could tapping fix the iPhone SE's ringtone and alert sound issue?

My wife’s iPhone SE has randomly stopped providing sounds (ringtones, text alerts, etc). Her iPhone can make and receive calls minus any appropriate sound. It does vibrate but that may not be felt when in her purse. I tried all of the suggestions I found here (mute switch, clean speaker openings, etc.) to no avail.

I tested her text tones while holding it to my ear. There was the appropriate sound, barely emanating, from her iPhone. Suspecting a loose connection I tapped the top of the iPhone on a table. It now works! I’m not sure if this will continue but felt it worthwhile to share as it is a simple fix and might help someone else.
