Music app UI issues after macOS Tahoe update

Yes, a TERRIBLE DECISION. Very disturbing... Also I noticed that a huge number of my album art pictures are now in very low quality. I am starting already uploading new pics, a pain if you have thousands of albums...

I agree, having the controller/now playing bar at the bottom of the window is interfering with relevant information and makes no sense. There's plenty of blank space at the top, where it belongs. I've submitted feedback to Apple, asking them to please move it back to the top.

I've been using Apple Music previously known as iTunes for 20 years and it's a frustration every time they upgrade. I don't understand why they release something when it's not perfect when it's not even workable. I'm in the same situation as you, my friend and I long for fix ASAP.

After the Tahoe update, crossfade continues to no longer function if you trim the end of the track in Apple Music; it just cuts off the song and goes on to the next track. It's a disaster for those of us who DJ playlists, and recalls that period about 15 years ago when crossfade was pretty much dead for a year. And while Apple has added total time back to the playlists, it is a general time, rounded off to the minute -- one can't see it down to the second, as before. It does seem to have fixed the issue of a track losing its first millisecond if clicked on in the middle of a playlist. Fingers crossed. And yeah, that hovering thing to see the time (and the moved timer) appears to have been a choice but is lousy UI, for sure.

Dear Apple:

Here are things you need to fix on Apple Music for Tahoe ASAP.

1) The music player UI at the bottom needs to go back up to the top immediately. Moving it to the bottom runs contrary to everything ever in software. We are used to the navigation and display of the subject matter at the top, from utlities to folder menu to website browser. Plus. it is super annoying having it at the bottom where my cursor brings up the dock. The entire point of the music player is to see what song and artist is playing...and you have it buried at the bottom??? Come on, Apple. Terrible. Absolutely terrible.

2) If I trim a song's start time, but click on it in the playlist, it starts at the beginning...not where I set it to start. The only instance it actually begins at my edited start time is when I let the previous song play out and it is next. Fix this bug immediately.

3) Crossfade from within the playlist does not work. I want the songs to play in order of the playlist, not the queue ("Continue Playing"). If I move a song in the playlist, the song is not moved in the queue...and it should. The playlist should drive the queue, not the other way around. Fix this.

4) I want to see the time of the song without having to hover my cursor over it. This is especially important because the music player UI is at the bottom by my dock (that also activates by hovering). On my MacBook Pro M4 Pro, the difference between hovering to get the time information and my dock popping up is a literal 1/4" on the screen.

Another major update, another trail of dysfunction in major apps. In my case Apple Music has become slow & prone to quitting unexpectedly, & for what benefit precisely? A few more useless bells & whistles, extra data demands & a few nice colours here & there. Mr Apple, for my money ($32A/ month), I'd rather have you just leave it at the level of reliable performance !!

I don't like having the Play Controls at the bottom any better than you but I am putting up with it. There are other inconsistencies in Music that I am trying to find work arounds for but from my side it seems that Music is not complete yet with a few bugs that need to be addressed.

Yeah, there are definitely other things I'm discovering about this version that irk me aside from that, like how there's a delay when starting a different track and how when I put a CD into my disc drive, it doesn't take me right to the CD's track list like it used to.

Agree completely! The lag between trying to click onto a different song to play is beyond ridiculous, spinning wheel until it decides to play it and I can no longer upload cds through my external writer to my library, doesn't even recognise it whereas it did the day before this nightmare upgrade

That "un-nesting" is such a PITA: Apple never created a decent way to organize albums in iTunes/Apple Music. Can you believe that after 20 years, there's still no search function for playlist/folder names? And now we have to scroll through hundreds of formerly closed folders which all spring open when you open just one....

I'm so disappointed in this upgrade to Tahoe.

When I try to play any song, the song begins about 1 second into the song, so you lose the first few notes of every song.

Also, Music keeps crashing and I get an error message to restart it. That only lasts a few minutes, then crashes again.

Please bring back the old iTunes where one used to be able to create and change playlists, and when you synced to your phone or iPod (back in the day) it only changed what you changed and didn't try to reinstall every song all over again.

Finally, what's with creating a new playlist from one that already exists? I only added a song or two to it, but now it's a whole new playlist with a number after it. Ridiculous.

I hope someone from Apple is listening. There really doesn't seem to be anyone to take complaints at the company.

Oh ya wanna scrub the playing track? How dare you wanna know how much time is left in a song? Well You can't!

Unless you move your cursor to the extremely tiny horizontal line on the very bottom of the window. Oh I hope you don't accidentally activate the Dock! Oh and guess how small that tiny line is that you have to perfectly put your cursor over to bring up the time and scrubber?

!!! 4 PIXELS !!!

That is how accurate you now need to be to get your cursor over the play slider in order to:

1. View Time (played, remaining) of the current song
2. Scrub the song.

I've been an avid AM fan and user and this is absolutely the worst thing I've ever seen come out of Cupertino!

Ask your designers to actually use the products they make. Maybe test it first before shipping it out to over 100 million users?

I have noticed in general with Tahoe the UI selection targets seem to have gotten significantly smaller or more precise. It's a very annoying UI. I now have to focus on my interface where before it just worked. This is not an improvement and a significant regression for no apparent reason.

I'm having an issue where, when in album view, I got back from an album to the rest of the library, I'm taken back much higher in the alphabet than where I was. For example, I'll be viewing the tracks on an artist that begins with "T" and click the back button to be brought to artists beginning with "P." Has anyone else experienced this? Any way to fix it?

I'm getting the playlist folders on Music opening and closing by themselves without my asking for it. It makes working with them extra hard.

Also, songs keep playing after I remove them from a smart playlist, which is different from before this update, and not desirable
