Unable to create a new recovery key for my Apple Account

Hello,

I'm trying to create a new recovery key for my account as I'm attempting to activate advanced data protection for my iCloud. I went into the settings and used the "forgot recovery key?" option. I then waited the hour; I got some sort of message on my iPhone but it disappeared before I could read it. And at this point I've no idea where the new recovery key has been sent or how to find out what it is. I have my Mac and iPad set up as trusted devices but noting showed up on either of them. I'm obviously missing something here; I just have no idea what it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I’ll assume the hour delay is due to Stolen Device Protection being enabled, and not set with Familiar Places enabled or not in a familiar location.

Update to 18.6.2, if not already.

Shut off the Recovery Key, if it is enabled.

Also temporarily either shut off Stolen Device Protection, or switch to familiar locations and then be in a familiar location.

Caveat: “If you don't know your account password and have lost or otherwise don't have a trusted device, you need your recovery key to regain access to your Apple Account. If you can't provide your recovery key, you’ll be locked out of your account permanently.
