iPhone 16 Pro Max – Button Click Sound Randomly Loud or Quiet (iOS 18.6.2)

everyone,

I’ve been experiencing a persistent issue with my iPhone 16 Pro Max (iOS 18.6.2) for some time. The button click sounds (keyboard, lock screen, etc.) randomly fluctuate between very loud and very quiet. This happens even though all sound settings seem correct.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

  • Checked all notification and system sounds.
  • Verified “Do Not Disturb” is off.
  • Reset all settings.
  • Checked volume buttons and sound settings multiple times.

Despite all this, the issue continues. It seems like the phone isn’t maintaining a consistent button click volume.

Has anyone else experienced this? Could it be a software bug or a hardware problem? Any suggestions for fixing it would be greatly appreciated!

If the button click sound on your iPhone randomly becomes louder or quieter, the reason could be the ambient noise detection feature. iPhones automatically adjust certain system sounds, including keyboard clicks and lock sounds, based on the surrounding environment to make them more audible in noisy conditions and softer in quiet ones.

There is no separate volume control specifically for keyboard click sounds. Their volume is tied to the overall ringer and alerts volume, which you can adjust in Settings > Sounds & Haptics or with the volume buttons (if “Change with Buttons” is enabled).

In short, the variation in sound is normal behavior and is not caused by a malfunction—it’s simply the iPhone adapting to your environment.

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate the information about ambient noise detection and the possibility of a system bug.

However, I believe my problem is not a normal behavior. It is much more complex and affects multiple areas of my iPhone.

Here is a more detailed summary of my issues:

  • Intermittent Sound Failure: My button clicks and notification sounds don't just change volume; they randomly become completely silent or extremely low, even in a quiet room.
  • Display Malfunction: The "Always-On display" feature is malfunctioning. The screen sometimes stays completely dark when I put the phone face down and doesn't wake up properly.
  • Other Symptoms: I have also experienced problems with passwords not being saved correctly.
  • Previous Troubleshooting: I have already performed hard resets, and a technician has inspected the phone and found no obvious hardware faults.

These symptoms combined suggest a deeper issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for the suggestion. I've already checked the ringer and notification settings, but the problem is not a volume setting issue.

The sounds are inconsistent and intermittent. Sometimes they are very loud, and other times they are very quiet or don't work at all, even when the volume is at maximum.

We believe this is a physical, internal hardware issue. Software adjustments can't fix that.
