Problem with synchronizing/uploading photos from Huawei Lite to iCloud

Hello Community,

I am reaching out to ask you for a help - I want to make a back up of my photos in Huwei P20 LIte phone on iCloud and the files get uploaded with .tar format which is unreadable or at least does not seem to be supported by iMac. To be able to connect the two devices I had to use the HiSuite app.

Any advice what to do? My phone is collapsing and I am really worried I will loose all photos and would like to avoid having to store them on google cloud.

I entered tar into google, learned it was an archive format that holds several files. I went to the Mac App Store and searched for tar, and it returned the free "The Unarchiver." It says it opens tar files.

Some folks here are suspicious of MacPaw's software. Stay way from CleanMyMac, and be very careful not to use any of their apps that can get access to Photos. "The Unarchiver" sees OK-- I'd give it a try.

hmm that's weird because I have never had problems extracting .tar or .tar.gz files which macOS Finder by default does via Archive Utility.app. Or via the Terminal with /usr/bin/tar (I am using Monterey right now).

But what exact workflow creates such .tar files?
